This isn’t unusual with state returns, so don’t panic!
While there are different reasons why your state e-file is still showing a pending status, here are the two most common:
It’s been less than 48 hours since you filed. Generally, e-filed returns sit in the pending status for 24 to 48 hours.
The state hasn’t started processing returns. While the IRS starts processing federal returns early in the tax season, your state may have not yet started processing state returns.
Note: This is especially common in early February (when e-filing first opens), meaning a return may remain in pending status for several days after your federal e-file status has changed to accepted.
